Work began in mid-Jun on a new community fitness center, USD 249 weight room and wresting center in downtown Frontenac. The project is being funded jointly by USD 249 and the Frontenac Recreation Board projected to cost $ 361,000. While the wrestling center and weight room will be used exclusively by the school district, the fitness center will be open to residents of Frontenac. More details will come as the project concludes.

Sugarcreek Packing, which currently runs a plant in Frontenac, announced a multi-million dollar expansion project that will bring more than 150 jobs to the community. Representatives from Sugarcreek Packing were present at the June 21st council meeting to make the announcement and thank the city for continued support. The city likewise thanks Sugarcreek Packing for choosing to continue to invest in Frontenac.
Funded by a combination of a CDBG Grant and a loan from the State of Kansas, the over-half-million dollar Frontenac Water Line project is proceeding as planned. The project calls for replacing outdated cast-iron and asbestos/cement water lines with new plastic lines. The project will span the entire length of Leighton St. as well as Parkview Drive from the south city limits to McKay St. The project is set to conclude in the next few months.
