Festa Italiana

The Festa Italiana is a fund-raiser hosted by the Frontenac Education Foundation. The funds are used to provide scholarships for every graduate of Frontenac High School that attends a post-secondary school. Also, due to the great success of the project, some money is also being used for equipment and Grants in Frontenac schools.

The Festa Italiana is held at the Raider Sports Complex once each fall. Festa provides a great opportunity for people to celebrate their heritage and show what made southeast Kansas what it is today. Many cooks and major vendors help out each year by providing food, prizes and live music for all. The different foods include traditional Italian, Mediterranean, French, Mexican, American Greek, Slovenian, Italian-Cajun, Bohemian and German dishes. Some new events to treat the public included a silent auction and bingo.

Nearly 3,000 people attend Festa yearly as the Foundation sets a money raising goal. The previous year's Festa raised nearly $ 70,000 at Mike Falletti Field at the Raider Sports Complex. Activities included more food samples than ever, Kids Zone where the varsity athletes worked with the kids and did face-painting, football toss and sand art, Mario's Market which featured a silent auction, and a live auction.

To date, the Foundation has raised over $ 550,000.

Veterans' Memorial

The Frontenac Memorial Wall was originally constructed as an Eagle Scout project in the mid-1990's by Frontenac resident Jared Pyle. With the assistance of Frontenac City Council Members, Pyle was able to come up with 225 names of war veterans for the original wall. The original wall remained until 2005.

In 2005, City Administrator Dan Brunetti contacted Commander Ronald Wattelet of the Frontenac American Legion about the possibilty of expanding the roster and relocating the wall. The task was taken on by Commander Wattelet and Legion Member Duke Locke to ensure that all Frontenac veterans were given proper recognition by having thier names on plaques that indicated the war/s or conflict/s that they served in. When they completed their count, nearly 650 names were to be added to the original 225. The relocation was done, the new engraved plaques were placed, and now Frontenac has a Veterans Memorial Wall that everyone can be proud of.

Currently the City of Frontenac has the responsibility for updating and maintaining the Memorial. The wall was relocated to a more prominant place in front of City Hall and names updated again in 2008. There are currently 895 names on the Memorial of veterans of WW1, WWII, Vietnam, Panama, Grenada, Lebanon, Korea, Vietnam, Iraq and Afghanistan.
