Service Area

The Frontenac Fire Department provides fire protection and rescue services for Frontenac, as well as surrounding areas when called upon. Our community continues to expand and grow, which creates a greater need for expanded emergency protection. Over the past few years, the departments arsenal has expanded to include a new fire truck, new protective gear for firefighters, a thermal imager, new Scott air packs, and many other greatly needed tools to provide fire protection to the City of Frontenac in the most safe and effective way possible. An approximate coverage map is provided below.

F
ire departments in Crawford County recognize mutual aid agreements with departments that it shares its borders with, also including departments in adjacent counties.

Mutual Aid agreements outline a predetermined arrangement for sharing equipment and personnel as needed. Fire protection service and mutual aid agreements have been made with the following fire departments: Fire District #1, Fire District #2, Fire District #3, Arcadia, Arma, Brazilton, Cherokee, Crawford Township, Girard, Hepler, Hepler Rural, Mulberry, Osage Township/McCune, Pittsburg, Sherman Township, Walnut, and Walnut Rural fire departments.

Reasons mutual aid may be activated include:
  • An incident larger than one department can handle

  • Lack of adequate water supply requiring water tanker shuttles

  • The fire occurred on the district line

  • Need for additional personnel

  • Equipment failure requiring temporary replacement / substitution

  • A department has received multiple calls

More and more departments are addressing their needs with automatic mutual aid agreements. These agreements allow for more than one department to respond to a structure fire at the same time. These agreements save time and make for a safer fire scene.

Recently, the Frontenac Fire Department, Crawford County Fire District #1 and Crawford County Fire District #2 entered into an automatic mutual aid agreement to provide redundant coverage north and west of Frontenac city limits. A map of automatic mutual aid coverage can be viewed by clicking here.
