Open burning within the city limits is allowed only by permit from the Fire Chief. Open burning includes, but is not limited to, silvicultural or range or wildlife management fires, prevention or control of disease or pests, bonfires and recreational fires. All open burns must be attended at all times with a water source available to quickly extinguish the fire if necessary. You may request an open burn permit by calling 231-9216.

Burning in an approved burn container (burn barrel) is allowed during the hours of 11:00 a.m and 7:00 p.m. without a permit. An approved trash burner shall be one built of brick, cement, stone or metal, constructed in a manner to securely confine burning material, and all openings must be covered with steel netting one inch mesh or with a steel plate with no larger than one inch holes therein. Items not approved for burning in an approved trash burner include garbage, greasy or oily paper, or old fruits or vegetables.

Open burning, recreational fires or fires in approved trash burners that will be offensive or objectionable because of smoke or odor emissions when atmospheric conditions or local circumstances make such fires hazardous shall be prohibited.
